Cacique Donates $240,000 in Products to Navidad en el Barrio in an Effort to Feed 20,000 Families During the Holidays

Press Release
Los Angeles - Dec 10, 2010 –

Cacique, the number one brand of Hispanic cheeses, chorizos and creams and the largest fresh cheese maker in the United States, announced today that it will donate $240,000 worth of product to Navidad en el Barrio’s annual Holiday Basket Program which feeds more than 20,000 families in need throughout Southern California.

“It is a profound joy to help Navidad en el Barrio this year in particular. We know that our customers are struggling to make ends meet in this very difficult economic climate,” said Ana de Cardenas, president of Cacique Foundation. “We are aware of the fact that many of our customers are actually experiencing hunger in their homes, and as a company with strong moral values had to do something that would provide immediate relief to our customers. We have felt their strong support for almost 40 years and this year they need us! This donation is a very large one for a company of our size and we make it with immense and profound peace and joy in the true spirit of Christmas.”

As part of their donation, Cacique will donate 60,000 units of cheese, up from the 20,000 units donated last year. Cacique staff and delivery trucks will be used to transport the cheese, weighing in at almost 37,5000 lbs to Navidad en el Barrio’s central warehouse where the cheese as well as other donated food items will be processed and redistributed to 42 charitable organizations in Southern California. Each individual charitable organization will in turn distribute the baskets to needy families this Saturday, December 10. Cacique employees will also volunteer their time to help sort and dispense baskets to the public at various locations.
“It’s great that year after year we can count on Cacique’s support and commitment to this effort,” said Irma Rodriquez, executive director of Navidad en el Barrio. “20,000 baskets go a long way for many of these families and can serve to feed close to 80,000 people.”

Behind the Holiday Basket Program is a massive logistical undertaking, which includes coordinating transportation and delivery of donated food products from up to 12 companies and redistributing them to the charitable organizations that host community events in their own facilities and dispense the baskets.
